Pomeranian puppies originated from Greenland sled dogs.  Around the world, they sometimes are called Poms, Zwers or Toy German Spitz.  They are very small, and perhaps the smallest breed of dogs which are included in dog shows.  They were popularized by England’s Queen Charlotte (1700) and Queen Victoria (1800).  Queen Victoria bought her Pom in Italy and called it Marco, which was the most famous pet during that era.

Pomeranian Puppies for the Celebrities

Famous people who displayed with joy their pet Pomeranian puppies are Paris Hilton, who loves to dress up her puppy with the same designer clothes that she has on for the day; Nicole Ritchie, who named her pup Foxxy Cleopatra, a character played by Beyonce Knowles in the third installment of the Austin Powers saga; the world-renowned genius painter and sculptor, Michelangelo, whose pom was with him while he graced the Sistine Chapel and Sir Isaac Newton with a puppy so active that it tipped a candle at one of his most important scientific works.

Poms, Poms, Poms

Pomeranian puppies are about 3-7 pounds and have a shoulder height of at most 11 inches.  They are the smallest dogs in the words, with a head shaped like a wedge, ears that are upright and eyes shaped like almonds.

Their outer coat is super soft and fluffy, while the under coat is coarse.  Without the hair, they look a bit similar to a Chihuahua.  Normal colors of these puppies are chocolate, black, blue, orange and cream.  It is also common for Pomeranian puppies to be Parti-color, or that which has a combination of white and another color.  Shedding for a female pom is every time she is in heat or after birth.  Male poms shed annually.

They normally live between 12-16 years, but some well-cared for puppies stretch up to 20 years old.

The dogs are bouncy and active.  They love running and playing with their masters.  Pomeranian puppies can be trained because these dogs are highly intelligent.  They are perfect watch dogs and bark at strangers because that is their protective nature, but poms are very loving and very loyal to their owners.

How to Take Care of a Pom

Bathing should be limited to at most 2 times a week, but daily brushing of hair is required.  Also, their teeth need to be cleaned as well through brushing and proper dental hygiene.  If done every day, that would be a great way to help your Pomeranian puppies.

Common health problems that these pups encounter are dislocated knee, Patent Ductus Arteriosus (a heart defect which causes an abnormal blood flow from the aorta and pulmonary artery) and damaged trachea.

Buying Pomeranian Puppies Online

By now, you must be smitten and thinking about buying your very own spitz.  Here are reminders for you when purchasing online:

  1. Email the potential seller and ask him or her all your questions.  If you are satisfied with the communication, you can ask for a phone number so you can personally talk with the seller.  If the seller does not answer you right or has lots of reasons why there is no phone number to give to you, walk away.
  2. Certified and reputable breeders provide public information where you can determine the location or country the breeders are in with their contact information.
  3. Do not send payment via Western Union services.  It is much safer to pay through Paypal or an escrow service.
  4. This purchase should be treated like any other bill of sale.  Put everything in writing for the sale of Pomeranian puppies.  Establish necessary papers and contract.
